Research:

I am drawn to both ethics (especially animal ethics) and aesthetics, and am particularly interested in how these areas of philosophy interact with the emotions. Specifically, I am interested in emotional reactions to or relationships with art and literature, as well as emotional relationships between humans and non-human animals. While I am most intrigued by the idea of characterizing emotional relationships between humans and “domestic,” companion animals, I think there is important work to be done regarding human emotional reactions to “wild” animals as well. Not surprisingly, I have a special interest in what I take to be complex moral questions raised by the portrayal of animals in art and literature.
