Achille Varzi has been a member of the Department since 1995. His main teaching and research interests are in logic, metaphysics, and the philosophy of language and literature. He is an editor of The Journal of Philosophy, a subject editor of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and an associate or advisory editor of The Monist, Synthese, Dialectica, and other journals. He also writes for the general public and contributes regularly to some Italian newspapers.

Professor Varzi has also been teaching for the Prison Education Program sponsored by Columbia University’s Justice-in-Education Initiative. Since 2017, he is also Bruno Kessler Honorary Professor at the University of Trento (Italy) and a regular visiting professor at the University of Lugano (Switzerland).
