Gal Katz

Gal Katz (PhD Columbia, 2017; MA Tel Aviv University, 2010) has been teaching Contemporary Civilization at Columbia's Core Curriculum since 2016, when he was still a graduate student. His research focuses on the ways in which politics and other social phenomena figure in subjective experience and psychological development. Recent publications include "Alleviating Love's Rage: Hegel on Shame and Sexual Recognition" (British Journal for the History of Philosophy, 2020), "Finite Freedom: Hegel on the Existential Function of the State" (European Journal of Philosophy, 2021), and "Sex and the City: Rousseau on Sexual Freedom and Its Modern Discontents" (Inquiry, 2022). He is currently concluding his training as a psychoanalyst at the William Alanson White Institute in Manhattan.
