Ph.D program in Philosophy
My main areas of interest are in the philosophy of mind, action, and moral psychology. I am generally interested in the nature of self-alienation, self-deception, psychoanalysis, and the difference between ‘merely intellectual’ knowledge, as contrasted with another, deeper, way we might know.
Recently, I have been particularly curious about the function and status of ‘structure talk’ (of inside and outside, conscious and unconscious, ego and id) as it relates to the mind in the context of phenomena like self-deception, repression, and pathology. I explore these areas through both contemporary and ancient sources.
